Yoga at Macalla farm

Macalla farm in home to the Clare Island retreat centre, one of Ireland's largest residential yoga centre.
Both Ciara and Christophe are yoga instructors with years of teaching experience and both have been practicing yoga on a daily basis for several years.
At Macalla farm, we don't view yoga as some kind of lofty spiritual pursuit, but as something that is very much an integral part of our daily lives. Asana practice keeps us fit for digging the garden or riding our horses. Sitting practice helps us stay calm and aware in all aspects of our busy and sometimes stressful lives. When injuries or sickness do occur, yoga helps promote a quick and complete recovery. The practical benefits of yoga are more than enough to justify the time we spend on our mats.
This is not to deny that yoga is a spiritual practice. We know from experience that the regular practice of yoga develops the whole person and helps to nurture the inner strength necessary to deal with integrity with the many challenges of living in a world out of balance . But to us, the spiritual benefits of yoga are of practical value, guiding our practical choices (such as that of growing as much of our own food as possible, or using firewood to heat the houses).

Unless a course is running at that time, the yoga studio, situated in our house, is open for self practice every morning from 7.00 to 9.30 am.
